There has been so much in the media about buy-to-let mortgages being to blame for the current crisis.
Yes, there have been some inexperienced and desperate buy-to-let landlorlds who have remort
gaged, taken the money and have not made any effort to pay the mortgage back.
But there are many more landlords who offer a good service to their tenants and who are now struggling to pay their mortgages and are unable to change to another lender. Let's fast forward.
If a landlord cannot continue his mortgage or remortgage to a different lender because his own lender is no longer in business, he will have to let the house be repossessed and the tenants will lose their home. If this happens all over the country, there will be homelessness on a massive scale.
So lenders need to be more responsible. If they were less hostile to their customers, whether their customers are homeowners or landlords, we would not have the current level of repossessions.
Not all homeowners are irresponsible - not all landlords are airhead investors. When are the lenders going to treat their customers more humanely?
